When you arrive at Thongsala port you will be met by several Thais shouting out destinations. The most popular destination is Haad Rin and so you will have no problem finding a local person to guide you to a shared taxi parked at the pier.

Once the taxi is full (or nearly full) the taxi will set off. Since plenty of people will be heading to Haad Rin it is usually a short wait. It is a fixed fee per person. The cost is 200 to 250 Thai Baht per person. If the driver doesn’t get the required number of passengers they will ask for a little more money from everyone.

The taxi journey is 15 minutes. Tell the driver the name of your hotel and they will take you to the door of your hotel. Most shared taxis are covered and so you and your luggage are protected against the rain.

Private Taxi

You can ask at the pier for a private taxi to Haad Rin. These are the same vehicles (Songthaew) as the shared taxis but they can be hired out for between 1,000 and 2,000 Thai Baht if you don’t want to share. Chances are they will be tempted to pick up people along the way anyway!
